Short break with kids ?

Hi all,

First time posting in this forum. Thinking of going to Calais for a short break over the UK schools half term holiday. Would be arriving on a Sunday and staying for 3 days.

Now the question is is Calais suitable for a short break ? Is it nice enough to have a look around or is it just hypermarkets ? The aim is just to get away and the kids haven't been on a ferry before. KIds are only 6 and 3.

Doesn't specifically have to be Calais itself. Taking the car so anywhere upto about 30 mins from Calais would be ok.

Any opinions gratefully received.

Thanks,

Chesterfield...

There's not really a lot specifically for kids that age at this time of year. There's a lot of sightseeing to do around the area. The beach etc at Calais is ok & that area of the town. Boulogne is worth a trip, there's the Nausicaa sealife centre there, as well as the old town etc. If you go to Boulogne try going one way by the old coast road, its slower than the free autoroute but more scenic with some nice villages on the way. Try a visit to Cap Gris Nez on the way, our 8year old grandson loved getting blown about there, its high up & can get quite windy!!

Its well worth trying the area for a break, there'll be plenty to keep you occupied
