Lille would probably be the best choice fairly close to Calais, or Bruges in Belgium if you wanted to go a little bit further (although it can be a bit of a pain driving in Bruges if you're not sure where you're going)

Just google "christmas markets nord pas de calais" & you'll get a lot of info then come back & ask any questions you have

Bruges is lovely, and about 1 hour or so from Calais, and they had a good Christmas market.

I'm planing on going again on 3 December so shall watch this topic with interest for suggestions of other Christmas markets to visit.

if you just wanted a reasonable short drive...why not try arras christmas market.it is a good one and a good town to, also has shops and history too.

bethune has also a good christmas market.which is closer to calais.

both have good hotels..

you will have to check the christmas market dates on line.

if you stay in calais, you can reach most towns with in a couple of hours .

Ah, that sounds a good idea for me Dave. I might work out the distances of Bethune and pay a visit :)

Went to Bethune Christmas market and it's lovely although it is a small market it is very festive. Not quite the same size as Aachen , Germany, or Bruges, Belguim, but still a lovely market none the less.

Good luck tomorrow if you are crossing, the weather has been very wild down south today.

Good luck, just checked the website as I thought of you and it's force 9 gusting 10! It's wild out there currently. It's calmer tomorrow but remember the sea takes a while to calm down. In those conditions, my seasickness sturgean tablets are very handy. On Saturday the day I had crossed it had been a windy night (nothing like we have now) and a fair few people where complaining about it.

Have fun though, the worse I've had is a force 9.
