When I was investigating my June trip to Calais, I really wanted to read what others did, so in the hope other will post their adventures in Calais, here is mine. May others post too.....
The purpose of our trip was to eat nice food, drink nice wine/beer/cognac, and bring home some beer and nice wine. We are not alcoholics, really!
Arrived on a Thursday afternoon and got off the ferry about midday. We could not get in our B&B (nuits d'allures) until 4pm. So we headed to Cite'DEurope Had a nice browse and filled 50% of the boot (a large estate) with wine and beer from Carre Four.
Headed back to central Calais and walked round in the centre in the sunshine (was hot) and had a few beers sitting outside. Got into the B&B, refresh and out for dinner. We ate in a seafood restaurant, Had a "plate of monsters" ie crab, lobster, winkles, brown shrimp, langoustine etc.
Next day headed to Belgium. Stopped on the border and bought the usual cigs. Then headed to Brugges. Had a lovely day walking down the canals, soaking up the atmosphere. Had a lovely meal in a little restaurant, Flemish beef stew, fries and salad.
Back to Calais , refresh and out to a local restaurant, excellent meal (read separate review). Tired and bed.
Wake up to last day, ferry at 2pm. Head off to supermarket and fill the boot with more lager/wine/seafood (in cooler), squash, juice, etc. Buy a picnic for the boat (french bread, ham, cheese, etc).
Good trip home, garage full of beer and head full of good memories!
