Nearest town is Hockenheim and it borders directly to the race track.

Speyer would be a nice option.

Plenty to see

and claims to have the highest ratio pubs per inhabitants in Germany.

Direct buses from Speyer to Hockenheim. Domplatz (cathedral square) Speyer to Bahnhof (station) in Hockenheim is 36 minutes. Bus frequency is 30 minutes.

On 22-24July in Stuttgart will hold the Solitude Revival ( www.solitude-revival.org ) to celebrate the 125th anniversary of the invention of the automobile. Solitude was one of the great and most difficult race courses of the world and the second highest attendance after the Indianapolis 500. It is named for the nearby Solitude Palace on the west side of Stuttgart. The race was discontinued in 1965 because of safety concerns with it being held on public roads. The course and its facilities remain the same except for one corner which has been altered. Several hundred different racing cars from the past history of racing will participate, and there should be lots of excellent ones from the local museums such as Porsche and Mercedes. An excellent opportunity to see some of these legendary cars back in action on one of the world's great race courses.

Just something that you might not be aware of but in which you may be interested.
