Hi, We would like to visit Meersburg in the summer, but find that Ryanair does not fly to Freiderikshafen anymore. One of us has walking difficulties.

Thankyou for any suggestions.

Ryanair does fly to Memmingen which is fairly close by. From there you can use the Baden-Wuerttemberg group (2-5 people) day train ticket to access Meersburg ( www.meersburg.de ) for 30€.. Although Meersburg doesn't have a train station you can take a train to Uhldingen a few kilometers away and then use a taxi or it is served by bus from more distant places such as Friedrichshafen. Use www.bahn.com to see what your travel options are and select "use only local transportation" if using this ticket and also via Ulm and/or Leutkirch, and not via Kempten. Although Memmingen is in Bavaria, it is also an acceptable station on some Baden-Wuerttemberg train routes. All public transportation in Baden-Wuerttemberg will be included using this ticket except the fast long-distance IC, EC and ICE trains (that is buses, trams, U-bahns, S-bahns and regional trains). Because Memmingen is in Bavaria, the bus from the airport to the train station will not be included. This ticket is valid from 9AM to 3AM the next day on weekdays, and from midnight to 3AM the next day on weekends.

You could also check other airlines that fly to Friedrichshafen which is definitely the closest airport.

It's also possible to fly into Stuttgart ( www.stuttgart-tourist.de ) and take a train from there. Stuttgart is served by at least three discount airlines ( www.germanwings.com ; www.tuifly.com ; www.airberlin.com ) and many regular airlines. Again, the Baden-Wuerttemberg day train ticket can be used for all travel.

The Zurich Airport is also fairly close by.

www.bahn.com can be used for traveling between any of these airports (Flughafen) and Meersburg.

Allowing for walking difficulties then the easiest would be to use Easyjet from Gatwick to Zurich and rent a car

thankyou for all your suggestions. I will certainly look into them. Have not been able to find any flights direct to Friedrichshafen from anywhere in the UK. We are elderly and really do not fancy hiring a car.

Our plan was to fly to F and then take a bus to Meersburg.

Many thanks.

Walking difficulties - Meersburg is very hilly and has no train connections. If I were you I'd rather stay in Konstanz , which has a well-preserved and interesting old town with lots of authentic medieval architecture, is flat, a larger town with any infrastructure a visitor would want, and has excellent transport connections in all directions by train and boat. That gives you the options of flying into either Zürich or Baden-Baden and taking the train. Then do Meersburg as a day trip by cruise boat. Other options by boat, for example, include Mainau Island, or the rige along the Lake Rhine to Untersee and Reichenau island. Local trains run all along the lake shores both on the German and the Swiss side and stop everywhere (with, sadly, the exception of Meersburg and a few neighbouring places).

This is why we find Tripadvisor so great ! Had no idea that Meersburg was hilly. Konstanz sounds just the place for us.

Thankyou all.
