Planning a trip to the auto & technik museums

Planning a trip to Germany in July of this year and are hoping to take in the auto & technik museums in Sinsheim and Speyer. Hoping to spend a couple of days in Frankfurt then down to the museums for a few days and then back to Frankfurt for a night or two before we come home. Can anyone advise on hotels and restaurants in Frankfurt, Sinsheim and Speyer? Also can we get down to the museums by train from Frankfurt or would we be better off to hire a car?

Yes. The Sinsheim Museum has even its own station "Sinsheim Museum/Arena".

I would recommend to stay in Speyer and do Sinsheim from there as a day trip.

There is also a combi offer: both museums and 1 overnight stay

Speyer and Sinsheim are inside the same local public transport network, the VRN

A 24 hours mini group (2-5 persons) "Ticket 24 PLUS" for the whole VRN area costs EUR 20,00. If bought on a Saturday it is not just valid for 24 hours but till 3am of the next workday. "Ticket 24 PLUS" gives you a small discount with both museums (group rate applies).

DB timetable

From: Frankfurt

To: Technik-Museum, Speyer

To: Auto-Technik-Museum, Sinsheim

I can't help you with your questions about these two museums (I believe the train station is close to the one in Sinsheim), but also consider visiting the Mercedes Benz Museum in Stuttgart ( www.stuttgart-tourist.de ) which is excellent and documents the over 120 year history of this firm and the automobile in the form of 160 vehicles which include Mercedes through the years, automotive improvements, cars driven or used by famous people such as the Popemobile, and racing and record setting cars. It is loved by all visitors irregardless of age or gender. The new Porsche Musuem is also excellent with about half the number of vehicles on display. Stuttgart is after all where the automobile was invented and commercialized. And you can also visit Daimler's reconstructed workshop where the first automobile was built in the Bad Cannstatt part of Stuttgart; with prearrangement with the Mercedes Benz Museum tour the nextdoor motor factory; also tour their largest assembly plant in nearby Sindelfingen with prearrangement through their European delivery program; and also Daimler's house of birth in nearby Schorndorf has a museum dedicated to him in which is the world's first motorcycle.
