Technik Museum Speyer and Technik Museum Sinsheim

Hello Germany Travel Experts,

I am planning to visit both TECHNIK MUSEUM SPEYER and TECHNIK MUSEUM SINSHEIM.

I have never been to Germany.

Could someone give me an idea:

1) Which airport I should arrive at in order to go there?

2) How to get both museums by public transportation?

3) Where to stay?

I think it would need 2 full days to visit both museums. Is it correct?

Any other places worth to visit in surrounding area?

Thanks in advance.

If you're interested in their exhibits - yes.

Speyer, Sinsheim, Heidelberg, Mannheim, Neckarsteinach, Weinheim are all inside the VRN local public transport association. The offered 24 hours and 3-day tickets are good deals covering all local public transport: regional trains, S-Bahn (suburban trains), trams and buses.

If you fly into Stuttgart ( www.stuttgart-tourist.de ), it is fairly close to Sinsheim, and you can use a Baden-Wuerttemberg day train ticket for all your travels, 21€ for a single, and 4€ more for each additional passenger up to 5. There are two restrictions with this ticket, no travel before 9AM on a weekday, and no fast long-distance trains (IC, EC, ICE) can be used. On the www.bahn.com website, if using this option, mark "use only local transportation". Otherwise it covers all public transportation (buses, trams, U-bahns, S-bahns, regional trains) in this state, but not at Speyer (only the trains to and from it).

Stuttgart is the birthplace of the automobile and where it was commercialized. The Mercedes Benz Museum ( mercedes-benz-classic.com/content/classic/mp… ) is the largest automobile museum in the world and covers the over 125 year history of the automobile and this firm. It is loved by all visitors irregardless of age, gender, or whether they particularly like automobiles or not. The Porsche Museum ( porsche.com/international/… )appeals mainly to racing fans and fans of the brand.

You can also tour the assembly plants for both firms, Mercedes Benz's largest in nearby Sindelfingen, and the Porsche one in the Zuffenhausen part of Stuttgart. Plant tours are best arranged through these companies USA websites under their German purchase programs.

At the tourist office for 1€ you can purchase a nice booklet "Following the traces of Economic History in the Stuttgart Region which has 55 attractions such as the above and other places listed in it.

Over half of all of Germany's automobile museums are in Baden-Wuerttemberg, and look at #1 in tripadvisor.com/ShowTopic-g187276-i703-k4460… .

Stuttgart is also an excellent place to visit for other reasons, and there is much to see in the nearby region. Have a look at what I wrote in #1 about visiting the Neckar Valley towns, some of the most scenic in Germany- tripadvisor.com/ShowTopic-g187276-i703-k5059… , and for some nice pictures www.joachim-buechler.de/html/neckar.html and www.joachim-buechler.de/html/neckartal.html .

For other ideas of what to do in and around Stuttgart and Baden-Wuerttemberg, just click on my name and look at some of my thousands of contributions most of which cover this part of Germany.

5. Re: Technik Museum Speyer and Technik Museum Sinsheim

Thanks again.

Can anyone confirm what I found please?

It seems that the traveling time from Stuttgart Hbf to Speyer Technik-Museum is about 2 hours. And it seems that travelling time from Stuttgart Hbf to Sinsheim Technik-Museum is about 105 minutes.

Are they correct?

If so, both museums are quite far from Stuttgart? Or not?

Is there anything else to see around either museum within walking distance?

Thanks again! :)

> If so, both museums are quite far from Stuttgart? Or not?

Indeed. I was not bringing Stuttgart here in.

You asked in your original question where to stay and I answered in #1

3) Speyer, Mannheim, Heidelberg

You asked also "Any other places worth to visit in surrounding area?" and I also answered this question.

Mannheim and Heidelberg are on the train route from Speyer to Sinsheim and larger cities. Sinsheim itself is not really of any interest. While Speyer has plenty of sights.

Thanks abalada.

I have changed mind per marcopolko's suggestion.

So I probably will stay in Stuttgart during my stay in Germany.

So both museums are indeed far from Stuttgart, right?

Were the traveling time I mentioned before correct?

So I guess there is not much see around either museum, right?

I think about walking around the city after visiting the museum, if time permits.

True for the Sinsheim one. Not true at all for the Speyer one which is close to the old city center. Speyer was 1000 years ago one of the most important cities in Germany. More German emperors are buried in Speyer cathedral than in any other church or city in Germany. Speyer cathedral was also the largest church in Europe when finished nearly thousand years ago.

The nice town of Bad Wimpfen ( www.badwimpfen.de ) is along the train line to the east of Sinsheim not too far, as little as 25 minutes by S-bahn or regional train.

When I use www.bahn.com , between Stuttgart and Sinsheim I get a time of 87-91 minutes using regional trains and/or S-bahns.
