New Resort Monte Cristo Resort Casino & Spa to open Nov 2014

Once this resort is completed this will be the best resort in Camotes. I suspect this will encourage a surge of tourism to the area. Im looking forward to my first trip there at the end of the year.

There is news about the construction of an airport in Camotes.

It is remote from Manila, requiring four modes (air or sea, then taxi or bus to say Danao on Cebu Island, ferry to Camotes and minicab or tricycle to the proposed accommodation.

It could target the smaller but fast growing Cebu City market, but even then travellers have to base their visit around infrequent ferry timetables.

It may well be excellent and good on the investors, but Camotes Islands lack an airport so if access if perceived as fairly difficult, fewer will visit.

The project is a 20 hectare development. The Monte Cristo Resort Casino is scheduled to have a soft opening February 2015. The owners are an international group and have nothing to do with Mangodlong.

On getting to Camotes: A new fast ferry from Cebu to Poro is coming in the next few months. The new airport is scheduled to be completed by end of year and should have flights from Manila by 2015.

I said in my post more than 3 months ago that I haven't been to Camotes but I was reminded that I went there ages ago when I was still in high school. I think this is the perfect year to be back there.

Hi Tom-great work your doing here. Mangodlong gave you incorrect info. The resort is being developed by Monte Cristo Integrated Resort Corp whose CEO John Davenport has a house on Camotes.

If you drive to Cacagan, Poro next month you will be able to see the construction. They have a soft opening planned for February next year. Along with 100 condos the resort has 30 rooms, casino, spa, conference center, swimming pools, 2 restaurants, bar, shops and a marina.

The Monte Cristo Resort has decided to increase to 40 rooms along with 100 condo villas and will be building a shopping plaza near the front entrance which will have 4 shops, an art gallery and a fast food restaurant. The improvements to the main road that leads to Cagcagan and the resort has begun and the site work at the resort is underway. They expect a soft opening in February next year.

i don't hold out any hope for the fast ferry or the airport.

Ormoc City has an airport with no commercial flights as there is not enough business. The most recent airline to try was PAL express and they stopped flying there several years ago. I personally do not think that Camotes will get more people flying than Ormoc City.

In the last 10 years, there have been 2 fast ferry companies that tried and gave up operating between Cebu City and Camotes.
