End of January is usually a great time to ski. It should be cold and there should be plenty of snow. Staying in Morzine you can also ski in Avoriaz which is high enough to have guaranteed snow in January. You also avoid the school holidays which is a bonus... :) I personally really like Morzine and the Ported du Soleil! Have a great time!

I did a season in Morzine in 2010 and go back every year, It's a brilliant ski area. End of Jan will be brilliant, you'll have a healthy amount of snow on the ground and are likely to get some generous dumps during your stay. Also, it won't be quite as cold as Early season/Christmas (which can be bitter).

Morzine/Les Gets is great for everyone and covers a larger area than most other resorts. Avoriaz opens you up to the rest of the Portes Du Soleil and gives you the largest ski area in Europe.

If you want any specific advice on accommodation, transfers, passes, ski routes, restaurants or anything else feel free to get in touch.

Had a week in Morzine in January this year. The ski-ing was truly outstanding every day.

The advantages of going in January are quieter slopes, cheaper hotel/chalet rates, better chances of good snow.

Downside is really just temperature - this year we had minus 10 or below for quite a few days. But even that has the advantage of keeping the snow fresh.

Book now!

You get 10% off if you buy the passes before the 8th of December. …portesdusoleil.com/lift-tickets-discount.ht…

Not sure about ski hire shops in the area. Once again it is worth doing a quick google search for ski hire discounts as you can pick up some decent deals!

Hello

Alpe d'Huez is also great for first time skiers. Lots of lovely green runs and you can go up and down on the lifts so you dont have to ski down if you are tired.

End of Jan is cold everywhere in the Alps so wrap up warm with non cotton thermals and fleece , Buy a good ski jacket and trousers and proper ski socks If you feel the cold you may prefer ski mittens to gloves.

Try to have a 2 hr session in a snow dome or dry slope so you know how to put on your boots and skiis.

During your first ski holiday book a week of ski school so you learn the basics.

If you book a catered chalet you will have other people to talk to about your experiences which can be very reassuring when you first go skiing!

Above all - enjoy and bon ski!
