Driving Lyon Airport - Morzine...Snow Chains?

We are travelling to Morzine in mid March and will be hiring a car at Lyon airport. Will we need snow chains for the journey? Presumably if there has been a recent heavy fall then it would be advisable....... but if conditions are "normal" do you think we would be ok without them? We have been to Morzine quite a few times and usually fly into Geneva and get a transfer - however car hire is working out much cheaper from Lyon. We are staying right in the centre of town just at the bottom of the Pleney and have an underground space for the car. Once we get to Morzine we wont be using the car at all - we will only take it out again for the return journey. Any views would be appreciated.

Thanks

If the weather is ok then no - you won't. The problem is usually the way up to Morzine from Cluses. If snow is forecasted then you should get a pair of chains from the supermarket in Cluses. If you keep the receipt and don't end up using them then I presume they would take them back no problem a week later.

We've been fine with just snow tyres but I'm not sure whether hire cars in Lyon would have them. I'd just wait until you get there to be honest and see what conditions are like.

Thanks very much for your advice on this - that makes sense and the option of going to the supermarket in Cluses is a good idea.

We will wait and see what conditions are like at the time.

Hi we drive over every year and have for the past years we have chains and have only ever used them twice, however if conditions change which it can do very quickly it is better to have them. In addition to this if you are stopped by the police you must have them or face a large fine. When hiring a car you usually have the option to add them to your rental - as if conditions have been bad supermarket may have sod out.

Round up through Les Gets can get very bad very quickly

My advice as for them to be included in your rental.

Hooey you have a great time - it is a fantastic area
