I have an overnight stay in Truro tonight. Any suggestions where I might find some live music and perhaps a pint of real ale?
I don't know about live music but for real ale try the Old Ale House which is Skinners, the City Inn which is a traditional pub, always a good pint there - Betty Stoggs, Otter and others, Bunters bar often has music but I don't know about the beer.
The 2014 CAMRA Good Beer Guide lists two pubs in Truro, the City Inn as Kernewes points out and the Wig & Pen which is a St Austell house. Of course, the guide doesn't have room for every pub in every town that sells good cask-conditioned ales, so part of the fun is sampling ales in various other pubs.
I've just come back from town. The only live music I can find is in the Kazbah where there is an "open mic" night. I didn't get as far as Bunters. I have never been in the Kazbah, it is not known as a real ale pub but I could see a Skinners hand pump on the bar. It is only a few doors from the Old Ale House. I am told that the Wig and Pen is ok as is the William iv but I haven't been in either of them for years. I am surprised the Wig is in the GBG but as I haven't been in I don't know. Where are you staying? You could try them all!!!!!!!Edited: 02 December 2013, 10:36
Sounds like a good plan.....
I like William iv but I don't drink ale or go out on a Monday night! But there is usually a good buzz about the place
Thanks to everyone for taking the time and trouble to respond. I didn't find any live music but the city centre is well served for food and drink. A very pleasant evening and thanks for the tips. I found most of them!
