Riverside footpath vs Sheffield Road (B6057)?

I'll be staying at Premier Inn North for one Friday night in June and plan to arrive mid afternoon and then walk into town to find some food early evening.

Looking on the web it looks like there is a footpath beside the river Rother that I could follow from Tapton Lock Hill to Wharf Lane but is this a safe walk for a lone female?

Alternative is to walk down Sheffield Road or catch a bus - would this be a better idea?

Safe - yes in the daylight. Pleasant - probably

I would just catch one of the many buses that run along Sheffield Road into the town centre as the walk along Sheffield Road is a very boring trek !
