Chatsworth vs. Blenheim...if you could only choose one?

Help us decide which!

Am considering a couple days in the Cotswolds

& a few in Northern Wales. Had considered

doing Blenheim on the way to the Cotswolds.

But just realized I suppose we could instead

head from Stansted Airport to Chatsworth...

and then over to Conwy (north Wales)...

then, on down a bit...

then over & back through the Cotswolds!

Crazy? Is Chatsworth the better one to include

if we can only include one? Just curious.

Thanks so much! :-)

I'm agreeing with EW that it depends what you like - dark stone or light stone, hilly park or park with big lake, different family history and influences.... fitting in with your journey....

Personally my next priority would be to visit Blenheim interior because I haven't seen it, but my next trip will probably be for a walk at Chatsworth because it is close enough for a half day trip. It's that close as far as I am concerned.

Chatsworth is built in a mid-coloured stone which has weathered to a darker shade and surrounding rocks and buildings are from darker local millstone grit http://www.chatsworth.org/

Blenheim is further south and the stone is paler http://www.blenheimpalace.com/

Thank you, thank you!

Now going online to Chatsworth & reading its link

re: the Peak District & just how many homes it contains of note...

I'm as torn as ever! :-{

But I DO have to choose, as just no time

to incorporate everything.

Do you think weather better in the Cotswolds

in late April vs. further north in the Peak District?

Or, really, just not much difference? If you don't want to reply to more questions, I understand! :-)

In late April, the weather will be about the same in either place.

As there is not a lot to choose between the two houses, I would suggest you base your decision on what else you want to do in those areas. If it helps, your idea of going out via the Peak District and returning via the Cotswolds seems a good one but allow plenty of time for the non-motorway parts of the tip.

Thanks, Phil! :-)

If trying what you mentioned as indeed 'doable'...

where would stay on Night 1...

heading from Stansted...seeing Chatsworth...

and then, making way towards Wales? (but maybe

not into it?) THanks!

For a 'stopover' when heading from Stansted to Chatsworth, I would pick Stamford. An attractive town with History. If you really want to 'splash out' stay at 'The George' and look at Daniel Lambert's chair. OR just stay in Stamford, and have dinner at 'The George'.

TBH you can easily reach 'Chatsworth' from Stamford, in the space of one day, if you decide to go-for-it and stay near there, try Baslow, Buxton or, perhaps, Chesterfield/Derby/Nottingham.

The answer to the stop-over question rather depends on what time your flight lands and what sort of standard of accommodation you are after.

Perhaps you could give us some ideas.
