Question for Beanalainn (or any Ireland expert!)

I will be driving from Shannon airport to Dingle (via connor pass) for a day then heading to Tipperary (cashel, cahir) before heading to Killkenny.

I think I'm going to skip the Ring of Kerry to get to Tipperary and head back up from Dingle (not going connor pass).

Which route(s) would you suggest? Any towns, places, etc. on the way? I'm not so concerned with touristy things, but would like pretty scenery or friendly towns, etc. on the way.

Thanks in advance.

Debi

Hi there again (lost my first message)

My suggestions are as follows:

Shannon - Bunratty Castle & Gardens - Adare - Dingle via Connor Pass.

Dingle - Annascaul - Inch Beach - Castlemaine - Milltown - Aghadoe - Killarney - Rathmore - Mallow. Between Mallow and Kildorrery are two nice places Doneraile Court and Annesgrove Gardens.

Then travel to Mitchelstown, follow the signs for the Glen of Aherlow (R662/R663). This is a lovely area. You will arrive via the Glen in Bansha. Take a short scenic drive to Caher on the N24 then take the N8 to Cashel.

Head back to Caher and at Clonmel take the N76 to Kilkenny.

From Kilkenny there is a lovel drive down the R700 along the River Nore to Inistoige.

Hope this has helped. Take Care.

Thank you Beanalainn for the quick response!

I just thought it might be too much in a day to travel through ring of kerry/killarney towards cashir/cashel from dingle and there might be a way that is shorter and pretty as well.

The day I'm in Dingle, I'll be horse riding and other little things in that surrounding area. I like to leave a little time to just do things as they come up.

Hi Cateyes - I have given you a lot of information about various places, there is a lot to do in the schedule. Take a look at www.aaroadwatch.ie There is a route-planner in the blue left-hand column which will help you plan things a little bit better.

If you are in a rush and want to include Dingle then I would suggest doing Bunratty, Dingle (going from Dingle via Limerick to Cashel and Caher on the main roads) staying over in Dingle and Kilkenny. You could take the Inistoige trip the next day.

Roads with an N are main roads, better quality and faster to drive.

I hope I have helped somewhat, rather than confused. Take Care.

I will definitely let you know how it goes (and hopefully with a picture link because I really love seeing other people's pictures; it says everything) I look at this as an adventure and something good for the soul.
