For my boyfriends 22nd birthday I want to bring him to west cork but would kinsale or clonakilty be more suitable? I would like to stay in a nice hotel with a swimming pool. have looked at actons and trident in kinsale and quality hotel clon. hotels in kinsale seem nicer but wonder would clonakilty be a more lively town? hope someone can help!!

Kinsale is nice, but a bit too "genteel" I'd say for what you want.It does have a better choice hotel wise though.

The Quality hotels tend to be full of parents and young children.

Would the budget stretch to Inchadoney??

Kinsale is usually very lively at weekends if you're looking for nightlife. There's plenty of bars and nightclubs to choose from. The Carlton in Kinsale has a lovely pool and leisure centre too but is a bit outside town. They do provide a shuttle.

Clonakilty is also a lovely town and again lively at weekends. The Inchydoney Lodge & Spa is good but outside Clonakilty too and I would think a bit sedate for people your age. If you are driving why not do Kinsale and Clonakilty - have the best of both.
