Kinsale to Dublin 5 day road trip?

Attending a wedding in Kinsale and will be extending my trip. Was interested in renting a car and driving up the East Coast to Dublin. We are estimating we have 5 days to do the trip and would like to stop and "see" Ireland. Is 5 days enough to estimate this trip taking? Are there certain roads we should use to get to our final location? We are clueless about this trip and need all the help we can get!

Nice trip. A wedding in Kinsale will be nice.

I recommend the following for 5 days between Kinsale and Dublin.

Day 1 - Beara Peninsula - exploring and overnighting there, a beautiful and wild part of County Cork

Day 2 and 3 Killarney, County Kerry, and maybe use one of those days for a trip to Dingle

Day 4 - Blarney Castle and Cashel, overnight Kilkenny.

Day 5 -explore Kilkenny, and then drive to Dublin.

Loads of other options, but there's my suggestion. Enjoy the planning and the wedding.

If you are primarily heading up the south and east coasts, you'll mostly want to combine the N25 and N11, with other routes used for scenic trips to the coast and to get to specific attractions.

Five days is plenty of time for the trip. In fact, there's only 5-6 hours of total direct driving to get to Dublin, so you get plenty of sightseeing on the way.

Day 1 - East Cork (Cork, Cobh, Midleton Distillery)

Day 2 - East Cork/West Waterford (Youghal, Ardmore, Lismore, Mahon Falls, Copper Coast)

Day 3 - East Waterford/West Wexford (Waterford, Dunbrody Famine Ship)

Day 4 - South Wexford (JFK Arboretum, JFK Homestead, Hook Head, National Heritage Park, Curracloe/Rosslare Strand)

Day 5 - Wicklow (Mountains, Avoca, Glendalough)

You won't be able to do all those on a given day, but it gives an idea of how you could break up the trip.

You'll also get to see a lot of parts of Ireland that a lot of our North American visitors miss out on. That's not to say there won't be tourist facilities; the South-East is popular for short breaks for people from Dublin and the proximity of Rosslare Ferry Port means a lot of British and other European visitors see these areas.

Should you want to add Kilkenny, it would be a relatively easy sidetrip from the Waterford area.
