Thanks for these, Tony. Both of these links work.

For anyone interested in visiting islands off the west coast, the first link above

http://www.rte.ie/player/#!v=3303140

relates not just to Clifden and its history but also mentions a Connemara Safari.

It's a visit over three days to the islands of Inishboffin, Inishturk - both off the coast of Galway - and Clare Island, off the Mayo coast.

Is it better to stay in town at the Clifden Station hotel or outside say at the Abbeyglen Castle? Or, is there a better option?

Thanks

I would not stay at the Station House. I have never stayed there but have had conversations with people who have. Same can be said for Abbeglen which is always well spoken of. Either are 5 minutes walk from the centre.

There are two alternatives right in the centre, The Alcock and Foyles I can recommend the former but would not go back to the latter. We now stay in Dún Rí guest house which is a great choice right at the east end of town.

We took Tony's advice and stayed at Dun Ri a couple of months ago. A big plus Tony didn't mention- the very short walk to the pubs is slightly uphill on the way there, but very mercifully is slightly downhill on the way back.
