It would be about an hour or so. The roads are fine but country roads so can be slow (tractors etc). Really depends on what you'd like to do and how long you're in Kenmare. There's great walks and amazing scenery there. About 45 min from Durrus (where the turn to Sheeps Head) is Mizen Head. Also amazing scenery! Enjoy

It sounds about right, possibly a bit optimistic.

Kenmare to Bantry is quite a mountainous drive and there's always the potential to get held up in Bantry town.

Sheep's Head is great for walking and is the least developed of the peninsulas in Cork and Kerry. The downside is that there are fewer places to stop and it's the only one of the five without a decent beach.

We are heading for Kenmare, arriving tomorrow. We're going to Sheep's Head (not sure what day), so I can let you know for sure in the near future...but you probably will get a better answer soon. I hear it's worth it.

Edit: the destination experts beat my post!

If you want a beach head to Mizen Head then enjoy the rest of the day at Barleycove Beach! Really nice beach!

IWe have done the drive from Kenmare to the sheepshead on a number of occasions and to be honest although the drive is about an hour and a half to Kilcrohane village, the time passes quickly as the scenery is fab. The sheepshead is well worth the visit - totally unspoilt and the walk out to the lighthouse from Tooreen is great. Barleycove beach near Mizen head is lovely but does tend to be very windy.

Be sure to drive the Goat's Path from Kilcrohane to Bantry. It's a small, winding road, but SO worth it for the views.

It is about an hour, but you'll find plenty of places to go, things to do and places to eat. The historic market town of Bantry is bustling, and sits at the top of the peninsula, and the local villages are great places to stop.
