Rent a cell phone?

Did any of you rent a cell phone that you can use in Ireland? I noticed some of them have unlimited free incoming calls. Any advice?

All of them have unlimited free incoming calls, as in most places, as the caller pays more to ring them. Have a search on the Ireland forums there are lots of threads on phones.

all mobile phones in Ireland have free incoming calls and texts.

I dont know about renting them but you can get a prepay mobile phone with some credit to start you off for very little.

Vodafone, Meteor and O2 are the main mobile phone networks and have shops all around the country. Vodafone have one in the arrivals area of Dublin airport

Have you searched the forums for the (hundreds) of posts on this topic yet? The best advice is to buy a SIM card on arrival and then use it in your own phone if it is compatible with the GSM network (e.g. a tri-band or quad-band phone) and is unlocked by your carrier. There is a Vodafone store on the arrival level in Dublin airport, and every town and village in the country has somewhere selling phones (they are called mobile phones in Ireland, not cell phones).

If your phone is not compatible with the GSM network you can buy a phone+SIM for about €50 on arrival that comes with about €10 of call credit. The SIM is a pay-as-you-go type so you simply top it up with call credit as you use it. That way you have a local Irish number to give to contacts and don't have to pay huge charges. If you buy a phone in Ireland it will work worldwide (possibly except Japan).
