horseback riding

We're staying on the kohala coast and would like to do a horesback ride that will allow a run or canter and would take us close to the ocean or a waterfall. I don't want a nose to tail ride over dry country.

Can anyone recommend a place not too far from where we're staying? say within 45-60 min. away?

There are only so many riding outfits, and I'm not aware of one that does all you ask. The only waterfalls I know of on the west side are at the back of Waipi'o Valley, and you certainly can't run or canter on rides down there.

Nor is any waterfall near the ocean ... nor do I know of any near the coast except the one in South Kona, King's Trail, goes down to the ocean:

Kohala choices:

Paniolo Adventures (on Kohala Mountain):

Na'alepa Stables:

The Kahua Ranch ride offers open range rides on Kohala Mountain.

Waipi'o rides

Dahana Ranch (between Waimea and Honoka'a/Ahualoa)

Offers free range riding

So you can definitely get the type of riding you want, and the scenery will surely be magnificent, but I don't think it matches up to ocean or waterfall request other than as viewed from a distance. Could be wrong there.

There may be other outfits as well.

I just posted a comment on a similar thread since I had done the Naalapa stables ride to Waipio Valley this week. Agree, not sure if what you want exactly is out there, based on my ride this week.

Here's a link to the thread: tripadvisor.com/…44349164

Others have posted their opinion of the horse riding scene on it as well. If the link doesn't work, check the Waimea/Kamuela forum. Hope this is helpful.
