Info on Auchan Supermarket at Val de Europe

A tip here if you are trying to make your money stretch further.

At the rear of the supermarket (ground floor beyond the bakery) they have all their discounted food items (think Lidl or Aldi style non branded) in one place rather than dotted around.

Here you could get bags of pain au choc or croissants at 12 for around 1.6 euros rather than 4 in a bag from the bakery for a similar price, Cereals, fresh cheese, bread, juice, yoghurts etc were all cheaper than those in the main aisles and everything we bought was good quality still.

Plenty of fresh milk and also long life on the shelves.

There was no fruit in this section. Please be aware that when purchasing loose fruit at Auchan you have to weigh it and price it yourself in the fruit section - they do not have scales for it at the tills and you will end up having to exit the queue or not purchase it.

Also be aware that when you enter the supermarket if you have carrier bags with you, the security guard stapes the top of these shut (assume to stop shop lifting) so if you enter without walking over to him to have this done - don't be alarmed if they call you back!

There's no produce in THAT section, Ruthie, but when you go round the escalators to the produce section, you'll see a special area set up with bargain prices on basic fruit and veg (potatoes, carrots, bananas, apples, sometimes lemons, etc.) -- they try to have this section at about 1E per kilo.

And they'll staple the bags *containing merchandise from other stores* closed -- yes, to prevent shoplifting -- but they won't staple your empty carrier bags closed. (Just clarifying on that one)

Thanks for clarifying that Sunshine - I thought the fruit and veg prices were not too bad anyway but it was good to get some bargains.

The supermarket and the range of food it has is just amazing - it's like being in Harrods food hall!

I also think they have a great range of other products - we bought gorgeous soaps for just over a euro and some lovely Kinder choc characters which we had never seen at home.
