Which place to stay longer?

Am planning an August trip to see the GOR and am stopping 4 nights coming from Adelaide to accomplish this. At the moment we are looking at Robe, Port Fairy for two and then Apollo Bay. In terms of scenery and sights, would we be better staying two nights in Apollo Bay?

I know it is your winter and weather won't necessarily be the best but would still like to see the area.

Have just read a comment elsewhere that suggests the best area is Port Campbell to Apollo Bay.

Apollo Bay all the way to Anglesea is beautiful, as the road hugs the coast and you have magnificent ocean views. My favourite town along the way is Lorne, so that's where I would stay one night:)

Drive between Warrnambool and Port Campbell is also great and less crowded.

Take a look at visitwarrnambool.com.au and visit12apostles.com.au

Apollo Bay is a good base in August because you can head inland to the Otways, maybe go to the Otway Fly for a walk among the tree tops. Port Fairy is pretty but there's not a lot to do in Winter unless it's one of their musical winter weekends.

You can drive Adelaide to Port Fairy in 6-7 hrs so maybe just stop in Robe for lunch & give yourself longer on the GOR itself.

Robe & Port Fairy both have yummy places to eat.

This is specifically addressing coastal scenery. The Apostles and other stacks, cliffs, formations, etc are in the area just either side of Port Campbell. The road between Lorne and Apollo Bay is also very scenic with places to stop and park. IMO it's also worth considering a detour off the road to the Cape Otway lighthouse. Have you had a browse of the official tourism website?

Really helpful advice. Have cut Port Fairy to an overnight and will be focussing on Apollo Bay.
