Barracuda, 194 Main Street, Saint Julian’s, 21331817, fairly expensive but good fish restaurant. Right near Le Meridien hotel.

Piccolo Padre is underneath the Barracuda, 195 Main Street, Saint Julian’s, 21344875, this is cheaper than the Barracuda, has a good selection of pizzas, pastas and fish dishes including swordfish steaks main courses are range from about €9 to €14. http://www.piccolopadre.com

Mamma Mia Ta' Xbiex Seafront, Ta' Xbiex 21337248 in Msida cost about €15 per head with drinks, you have to book in advance in high season as very popular with the locals.

Browns Valetta Waterfront 27020471 or 21227410, August 2011 had 50% off food on Sunday, Monday and Tuesday, meal for 8 including drinks with discount cost us €105 http://www.browns.com.mt

Try the 'Villa' restaurant immediately in front of le'Meridien. Also the Barracuda as previously mentioned or its less expensive Piccolo Padre underneath, both a couple of minutes walk from the Hotel.

Slightly further afield at Spinola Bay St Julians, a ten minute walk, you have a plethora of excellent restaurants including Zest, Peppinos, Lulus, Blue Elephant at the Hilton, and about six further eateries on either side of the steps leading down to the Marina at Portomaso. There are perhaps thirty or forty other restaurants in the vicinity - you will not be short of choice.

My favourite is Peperoncino walk out the door of the Meridian where the taxis arrive technically the front door and walk down the hill Peperoncino is just at the bottom of the hill great food and like most Maltese restaurants lovely staff. You also have Barracudas upstairs posh nosh downstairs pizzas etc, you also have lots of restaurants in both directions towards Sliema or Spinola Bay and if you smoke Le Meridian has the best smoking room anywhere.

As you can see, you are spoilt for choice! If you have a car, do venture to the small village of Gharghur (20 minutes away) for informal eats at Il Carciofio (in street in front of church). Tasty food at great value prices.

There are masses of places you could try - several great fish places at the village of Marsaxlokk too!

L'ordine is lovely and just below the hotel. Walk around the seafront to Spinola bay and try 1927-great value and the food will blow you away but you really need a reservation. For cheap eats Dick's bar is a great spot. Also if you're willing to go to Valletta try the sensational Palazzo Preca-really worth the trip!

We just returned from Malta and stayed at Le Meridian. It is so very central and there are so many excellent restaurants to choose from just a stroll away. Most restaurants in Malta offer a varied menu. You haven't mentioned any particular preference but I would recommend Gululu on Spinola Bay for typical Maltese dishes, Black Bull up in St.George's Bay for a laid back cosmopolitan meal and atmosphere, and honestly I recommended making the most of the variety of restaurants in the bays area which are all within walking distance because parking in that busy traffic area seems a nightmare.

Enjoy.
