If driving yourself, it shouldn't take more than 30 minutes with no traffic. Avoid peak time!

If you include leaving central Jerez and parking in Cadiz then estimate 45mins to one hour. Alternatives include train both Commuter type train called CERCANIAS or the longer distance trains like Media Distancia MD. Cheapest is the Cercanias and times can be found on:

renfe.com/EN/…index.html

All trains will take at least 40 minutes.

Or you can drive (or train / bus) to El Puerto de Santa Maria and take the Catamaran ferry over the Bay of Cadiz. A nice day trip on a sunny day.

Depends what you want to see. We stayed in Jerez and took a trip over to Cadiz on the Catamaran ferry, it was interesting, but probably as the weather wasn't great, not riveting, whereas we found countless things to do in Jerez.

Cadiz city during the morning up to say 2pm when it's not raining is busy and the shopping streets are lively and attractive. Head for Plaza de las Flores and the streets leading to it. Here you can find also the central Mercado which must be one of the best public markets in Cadiz Province even better than Jerez. Always something of interest. But quite a lot to see in Cadiz frankly and it is a city that is surrounded by water and having many towers - you could spend a day just finding all those watch towers and you can see them from the top of the Torre Tavira which is one of the well known ones.

And next year the city celebrates the 200tyh anniversary of the signing and proclamation of the first Constitution in 1812. Plenty to study about Spanish history !
