It could not be any easier. The train station is literarily at the ferry dock. Lots of similar posts on the forum with photos or you can google Flåm and look at images.

If the cruise tour is fully booked, it may be difficult to get tickets. You can buy tickets here

Six of us are travelling to Flam on 16th September on the Oriana. Of course, we don't want to pay the cost of this trip to the cruise liner and are happy to do this independently. However, I have been told that P and O will have booked the whole train and we are unlikely to be able to get tickets. How true do you think this is?

Normally there is a coach of 175 seats free for independent travellers. You can see the booking situation here.

Sometimes in high season there are 2-3 ships in Flåm and thousands of passengers with the same good idea that you are proposing. In these cases, many are turned away.

The Flåm train cannot be booked out by a cruise ship, there are always unbookable tickets available - just queue up at the ticket office. Even though Oriana is the only cruise ship in Flåm that day many of your fellow passengers will be thinking likewise so perhaps the safest is to buy the tickets Flåm-Myrdal-Flåm from the ticket machine in the station in your previous port of call - Stavanger. They cannot be bought on-line.

Tickets can also be bought using the NSB application for smart phone or tablet.

Have just come back from a Celebrity cruise. We were the only ship in Flam that day and the weather was glorious. We got off the ship early and checked out the station - there was quite a long queue but the screens showed availability for all that day's trains. The people on the ship's tours were already on the platform. We didn't do the train and went for a walk instead. By lunchtime there was only availability for the last couple of trains of the day.

Thanks, still not really sure what to do. REally want to go on the train, but don't fancy being jammed like sardines. Hope you enjoyed your holiday. Pat

Do you know if tickets can also be purchased for Flam-Myrdal-Flam from somewhere in Alesund, our cruise stop before we get to Flam? Also, we'd like to go Flam-Myrdal-Voss on the train, then bus back to Flam, but I'm having trouble figuring out the bus portion. Also don't know if it can be done in our time-frame - cruise ship anchors at 8:00 am and departs at 6:00 pm. Our ship (Prinsendam) and an Oceania ship are both in port that day. Any help would be appreciated.
