Trip report

I just wanted to leave a quick report on here because we had such a great holiday in Tossa de Mar.

We loved this little town, the small boutique shops (some selling designer items such as Boss, Armani, Lacoste etc) little authentic bars and beautiful restaurants. We had some lovely meals and the overall quality of the establishments seemed very good. We did quite a bit of wandering around the little streets and took a walk up the castle which has fantastic views.

The small beach was really clean and the water was gorgeous, but it was just too busy for us! We enjoyed cocktails on the promenade (can't remember the name of the bar) and people watching. Our hotel, Windsor, was in a great location in the middle of everything and less than a 5 minute walk to the bus station.

The town was much busier than we thought, filled with young couples, older ones and a few families. On Saturday, there were a few nice bars open until late and Disco Ely (for those who want to stay up a bit later!) was fun and had a good mix of people.

We rented a moped from Guillem (Av Catalunya) and drove to Fenals beach which was lots of fun on the winding roads! We took the Bus to Lloret on sunday evening which cost €1.75, which we thought was very reasonable and got a taxi back for €24. Although Lloret was a stark contrast to Tossa, we did enjoy it.

We wish we could have stayed longer! Hopefully we will return soon.

We stayed at the hotel Medplaya Esmeraldas in Tossa which was great but the pool was really small which is a shame because we went peak season meaning it was always crowded, of course we swam in the sea but are after a hotel in Tossa with a bigger pool for next year - has to be peak season because hubby and grown up daughter are both teachers - because we all love swimming, did your hotel have a pool?

Am not after an olympic sized pool but just one that is big enough to avoid crowding.

Thanks.

Tossa is my favourite place in this part of the world - small enough to be intimate yet large enough to have decent facilities, with a beautiful Old Town as an added bonus.

@NoSoyGuiri

Agreed, not too commercialised, still quaint and quintessentially Spanish, spotlessly clean/well maintained, and with the old town/castle giving it the 'Wow' factor.

In the south of Spain a little whitewashed pueblo called 'Salobrena' has my vote but in the north it has to be Tossa de Mar.

Hi Monroeessex, the pool was not huge but there was only ever 2 other people in it whilst we were there, so it was nice and relaxing!

Yet you went peak season!!!!

Hang on, what were the weekly rates per person for staying there?

We chose a budget hotel that was family orientated so I suppose a swimming pool full of kids dive-bombing and screaming is par for the course, can only imagine that your hotel was much more expensive but hey ho I suppose you pay for what you get, perhaps if it is just hubby and me next year we might pay for he luxury of a pool that is not over-run with old Uncle Tom Cobleigh and all!!

We stayed for 3 nights and it cost us just over €170 for the room, (not per person) including a fantastic breakfast. So we thought that was really great value. It is only a 1* but is better than any 3* we have ever stayed in. I have left a review if you want to read it - tripadvisor.co.uk/Hotel_Review-g230087-d5287…
