Malta buses

We will be staying in Mellieha in late September. Our first visit to Malta. Can anyone give me an update on the new bus service? We had hoped to take the Airport Express bus from the airport to the Pergola Hotel. Thanks.

The airport Express buses are working regularly , even if the schedule is not being kept on time . You will have no problems to get to Mellieha , even if it takes some time !

Depending on the time of day , the trip will take a good tour of Malta, in airconditioned space .

The first thing that you need to know is that the Airport Express bus doesn't currently stop in that part of Mellieha - it only stops on the outskirts, so whether it is worth using will depend on how much luggage you have.

Mellieha is probably one of the tourist towns worst affected by the bus changes as reports suggest that many of the buses are already full by the time they get there. However we are expecting further timetable modifications during the next few weeks, so things may improve then.

Personally I wouldn't use the bus to get to your hotel - it certainly isn't door to door! Since it will cost euro2.20 each for this trip, why not treat yourselves and put it towards a taxi? Take 30 minutes instead of perhaps 90, and start your holiday relaxed!

Thank you for your advice. We will probably get a taxi now. I knew we had to change buses close to Melieha as well. Given the length of time this trip might take on the buses, we'll opt for the taxi.

Thanks for the information. Based on all the replies I got I think we will take the taxi from the airport since it will be later in the afternoon when we arrive in Malta. Looking forward to visiting this beautiful country.

once you land you can get a taxi voucher which will be a set price. Look at the FAQ questions on your righthand side, it tells you where to get the ticket, how much it is etc. Or ask the hotel for a taxi pickup tho this may or may not be dearer.

according to website should be in Euros 29.50 to Mellieha. Mellieha is north of the island and the airport is the opposite end so you should see a far bit of Malta. The coast road is more scenic but not sure if that is the way the taxi would go.

Hello, you might like to know Williams Garage charge 18 euros for transfer from the airport to any hotel, for up to 4 persons. If you book online they will greet you on arrival and it will save time queueing and waiting for taxis. We found them prompt and reliable.
