Fire emergency in the Grampians

Currently there is a bad fire in the Northern Grampians with an emergency warning being issued for Roses Gap, Heathvale, Laharum, Zumsteins, Wartook.

I would ask our overseas and interstate visitors to RE CONSIDER travel plans and NOT travel to towns in the Grampians area until the fire emergency is over, conditions for Friday 17th Jan are expected to be worse than being experienced today. At present the advice is for the Northern Grampians but conditions can change suddenly.

For more information stay tuned to local radio stations and web sites for the CFA and Emergency Vic.

Stay safe everyone.

geepers Famrick - you guys are taking a beating.

In addition to this info - please be advised that there is a TOTAL FIRE BAN in place for the whole of Victoria until t least midnight Friday 17th - that means NO fires to be lit anywhere,

and please take care how you dispose of cigarette butts - don't throw them out car windows and don't stub them out on parched grass footpaths.

additional info is also available at the CFA facebook page https://www.facebook.com/?ref=tn_tnmn#!/cfavic?fref=ts

The state emergency minister advised on the media tonight that there were in excess of 1000 fires in Victoria during the past 24 hours.

A combination of extreme heat and strong winds tomorrow means we could be in for a rough time in the next 24 hours.

Stay safe everyone.

There will be evacuations from Halls Gap in the next few hours, and emergency warnings have been issued for much of the Northern Grampians area. …ninemsn.com.au/national/2014/01/17/02/02/vi…

Anyone planning to visit the Grampians over the next week or so should make alternate arrangements.

Do not place yourself, your family or emergency services personel at risk

Hi Famrick

Sorry to hear that happening to one of the beautiful natural places in Australia. Hope all will be over soon to allow recovery work and life back to normal.

I'm planning to visit Grampians in late March. Should I go ahead with my plans?

Regards,

Ryan

Absolutely Ryan ... large areas of bush have been destroyed but luckily (so far) there has not been major damage to the towns - the business owners will welcome you warmly... and hopefully if they get rain soon, the re-generation of the natural landscape will have begun

Halls Gap residents were evacuated on Friday and are now being allowed to return.

Once things settle down a bit more, the Open for Business sign will be put up and they will welcome everyone with open arms.

The best way we can support the Grampians communities is to visit and support local businesses.

Safe travelling everyone.
