brisas has the most shallow area and snorkeling is better in front of caracol. fish were mostly around the far right hand beach buoy at brisas. small coral out cropping there. other wise take the snorkeling trips or paddle boats out. carol e.

LaMama, you can also hire one of the Cubans looking after the hobby-cats to take you out to the main reef to snorkel for perhaps an hour or more. Cost should be around 10 CUC. Well worth the money. ;-)

Snorkelling in front of Caracol yields many rewards, but requires a certain amount of patience. :-)

only if kitcheneramon is out there on his sail board! lol. and I'm not sure if the hobbie guys are allowed to take us out snorkeling anymore. and patience is a virtue when you snorkel along towards my office past 7 barrel coral and a mini coral patch who knows what you might discover?. carol e.

Hola Karo,

There's good walk-in-off-the-beach snorkeling available in front of the Caracol resort. Lots of coral outcrops there and tropical fish to see in the growing coral garden. It's two resorts over from the Brisas...about a 10 minute walk down the beach. Go in the early morning when it's very calm and the tide is out. It's very shallow at that time...you can stand up on the bottom. But be very careful where you place your feet...it's a very pristine environment. Wear water-shoes if you don't take fins.

I hope you enjoy your stay. You're in for a treat.
