Travel Agent ?

I have only ever used a travel agent 1 time and we paid in full. Is that the standard or can you pay in payments? Are there any sites like Cheapcaribbean, Funjet, or Apple that take a downpayment and then payments thereafter?

Thanks!

I have never heard of any that would do that. That's why they invented credit cards.

Usually, there is a down payment, and then 6 weeks before the vacation, the payoff is due.

Depending upon when you are travelling, most agents will take a deposit to confirm your reservation, and then final payment is due on most tour operator packages (like Funjet, Apple, etc....CheapCaribbean I believe requires payment in full though, even when using a travel agent) 45 days prior to departure. In some time periods (like Christmas/New Years travel) final payment may be due 60 days out. Many agencies will allow you to make payments as you go if that's more convenient for you, as long as final payment is received by the due date.

We have always used Funjet and Worryfree, (with a travel agent) and always put a downpayment and paid the rest approx. 6 weeks before. If you are booking close to the date they will ask for it in full, but it is silly to pay in full 6 months out.

Most of the time the down payment is for the Airfare, that has to be paid in full if not a charter.

Thanks for the replies! We aren't going to be going on our trip until August of 2008. We didn't want to put the trip on our credit card. We would rather pay cash.

Yes - traveloni.com accepts partial payment up front and the rest later.

I'm doing the same thing with Beach Bum Vacation (www.beachbumvacation.com). Working with Roberts and he's been just great.
