ERC Review...thoughts?

Hey guys,

Just came across this review. Just wondering for those who have already been to ERC..what are your thoughts on this person's take on their stay.....

"Ruski1025, Berks, PA Sep 11, 2007

My experience with this property took place in:

September, 2007

Would I recommend this hotel to my best friend? no way!

My ratings for this hotel are:

My age: 25-34

Traveling group: Spouse / significant other

My visit was for: Honeymoon

My husband and I went to Excellence for our honeymoon and let me tell you we weren't treated any special than people just on vacation. The housekeeping never came on time, so we didn't know when we could shower, we couldn't really be spontaneous...and that's what a honeymoon is all about, or any vacation for that matter. The food was great, the service was good, but even though it's all inclusive we still had to tip a dollar here and there, which was kind of annoying since we shelled out so much money to begin with. Their dress code was way to strict. Who wants to wear pants on vacation/honeymoon? We were turned away from Spice because my husband didn't have long pants, even though he had nice shoes and shirt on.

The beach was nice and there were always activities planned.

Needless to say we won't ever go to an Excellence resort again."

They didn't seem to happy...do those who have went think they are being too picky?

My opinion:

They do not do their research or they would have know about the dress codes.

They sound like they were looking for a much more casual resort.

What about a Do Not Disturb sign for those romantic moments?

Did not know that housekeeping had to keep to a schedule. What does "on time" mean?

No one forced them to spend extra money.

As far as how they were treated, often you get what you give.

This is already partly covered off by another posting - see link below:

And as the person previous to this has said - DO YOUR RESEARCH, the website tells you all about thye Dress Code and it has been debated here on TA several times.

Whilst I am sorry they did not have a good time I think it is all part of the mind set - their problem not ERC's, yours or mine.

Go and enjoy

We were just there in July. This resort is as close to perfect as a resort can get. It is so beautiful, clean, and service oriented. I know every resort is not a perfect fit for each person, but I don't think anyone can fault this resort and it's management.

I have to go along with flip-flop on this.

The couple were maybe a bit out of their depth?

If they had researched the resort they would have known about all the things they complained about.

We loved the resort and had one of the best holidays ever.

In defense of or at least a different perspective:

1. I think the review is from a overstressed bride that expected absolute PERFECTION given the reviews and ratings here.

2. She is SORTA correct on maid service. For us it was "not on time" but give or take a hour or so.

Now take a look at the points she has decided to "won't go to an Excellence resort" were made on--Maid Service and hubby being turned away from Spice one night--she is just stressed and given a few weeks I think her outlook might be different.

She admits the service was good, the food was good, activities were planned and good.

My hubby was turned away from Spice first night because the dress summer sweater didn't have a collar--It really was very, very dressy and we knew the dress code. We just laughed when he returned with a really cheesy, uniron shirt that had a collar. In the Barcelona, I was escorted out because my navel was showing--My swimsuit coverup was from the waist down and in there opinion a no go. I return and was graciously escorted by the maitre'd to my lunch table with a lot of flair--I still tipped the waiter who apologized for me being asked to leave.

The point is we weren't stressed and certainly weren't going to let those issues put us in a puff and ruin our vacation.

Now where I take EXCEPTION is the tipping. NOBODY had a hand positioned out or even paused awaiting a tip. This should not be a factor in her assessment of the resort. Many people did not tip and I don't have a problem with that--some of it is cultural. We tipped very graciously because both our parents "have been there." My mother worked as a maid from age 16 to age 50 when she took her GED and went to college for nursing--we were in college at the exact same time. Hubby and I both had memories of how an extra $5.00 or $10.00 made a difference in our household and wanted to pass it on. Now if I had known the extra money was going to get me rose petals every night on the bed which I would have to remove maybe I wouldn't have been so generous!!!

Just think timing of maid service and shorts were the best she do for complaints! STRESSED!

I think you could be right.

The review rating was way to harsh for the faults mentioned. Faults which were easily fixed. There was obviously something else going on.

And I also agree about the tipping - at no time did any member of staff look for a tip while we were there. We did not need to tip but did so because we wanted to show our apperciation for the great job the staff were doing. If you did not want to tip, that was fine.

no resort in the world will satisfy 100% of people.

What appeals to us about this resort is that it seems to satisfy 95% of people which makes it a safe enough bet for me.

I think the standards in mexico are very high anyway. I know several people that have been to Moon Palace and rave about it, but that seems to contradict many of the reviews on this site. So take everything with a pinch of salt.

Unfortunately whist the idea of this website is good sometimes the picture it may paint for you is nowhere near accurate

A little research on her part prior to going would have avoided a few problems. Don't blame the resort , blame yourself! Or, if the dress code was too strict for them, maybe ERC wasn't the right place to begin with.

We were there in 2005. We did our homework and knew what to expect. Even with that, we had a few problems.

Just look at the reviews as a whole. About 95% are glowing! I rated it very high and would love to go back someday.
