2009 / 2010 Updates to El Dorado Royale

They are adding new section of Casitas with 2 new Presidental ones. Outsides are complete along wih the pool & bar and beach beds line the area. I didn't go inside them but it looks as though they may just need to put furniture in them. The top ones are infinity suites.

Trees & foliage have grown really nice.

Pool under the palapas near swing bar has been covered up by concrete & it now holds the new stage for nightly entertainment with plenty of room for tables & chairs and some room for dancing . By the way - the entertainment was better than previous stays.

In the JUNGLE on property

EDR does have barn wih houses horses, goats, peacocks.

Further down in the jungle is a huge palapas for the camels.

EDR has in-house tours which include carmel or horse rides.

They have built a green house - so EDR can grow some of their own vegetables.

There is also a cenote.

And a dried up cenote that they have turned into a bar. The stairs lead you down into the cenote that already has bar & dance area with lighting in the trees. The Jungle Bar (it's official name) is due to open in January once a week. But due to low attendence it maybe delayed.

All of this is seen when you take the bike tour.

The new Casita Spa is finished. And it's beauiful.

It has a steam room / sauna and cold plunge shower in the locker rooms. Along with 3 private showers / 3 tiolets & lots of lockers / iced face towels & iced mineral facial tonic spray. In the lockers are robes & slippers.

Right outside the locker room is bottled water for the guest.

I love the wet area.

It has a hydrotheraphy pool, hot tub, and cold plunge pool and with lounge chairs & a coffee / juice bar.

Outside the wet area is a private medatation garden which has fountains & is extremely relaxing.

There is a waiting / lounge area upstairs with a coffee / juice bar with an attendant who waits on you. I was escorted to the area & given a warm herbal wrap to relax as I waited for my theripist.

The service rooms are decorated nicely as the rest of he new spa and are all equipped wih showers and 2 tables.

Upstairs is 2 bridal suites where hair, nails, and massages can be scheduled for the entire party.

And down stairs is the work-out room has cardio equipment & some weights.

Attached to the spa is a completely glass room which is a treatment room with 2 massage tables.

The casita side now also has a massages sky hut (not as tall as the first one) that has 3 sections with each 2 tables for a total of 6. It was wrapped with the sheer material which helps with some privacy & to block some wind but still gives you access to all nature's elements to enjoy while receiving your treament.

The resort is now going green & doing their best to be conservative.

The Jr. suites now have sensors to know when the rooms are occupied - so the AC doesn't run at high speed all day.

They have solar panels & something that looks like a brick ovens that helps to heat water.

They now have signs in the room asking if you want to reuse towel - to hang it. And a sign that asks you not to run sink while brushing teeth.

The Royale side has gone to the towel / card system. You are given a card at check-in & you exchange this for a beach towel & then you can exchange your dirty towel for a clean one or you can get your card back.

I can see that this helps many problems. There were times where dirty towels are on the beach beds - and you don't know if they are being held or if someone just left them. And we have seem many couples in the past get many many sets of towels though-out the day. This way - it cuts down their laundering & also they don't run out of towels like they have in the past.

Casita's use the same method - of leaving 1 set of towels in your room each day.

Bottles found through-out the property with unused water - are now used to help water their plants. And water from laundry is filtered and used to water the jungle.

Plasic bottles, paper, and aluminum is recycled.

In my opinion - I think that these are great ideas. Keeping cost down helps to keep the resort affordable for all of us!

New restaurant on Casita side

It's going to be an Italian one. It was open a couple of days as Kampai due to some work going on in the orginal Kampai.

It is made of total glass in the front and on the sides. The view of ocean with the palms from in the restraurant is amazing.

It is decorated so beautifully. Dark wood tables with cream linen chairs. In the center is a dark wood shelf that has beautiful sculptures & flowers.

There are 2 sepaerate areas for large parties.

One is in the back left corner with a unique glass chandelier. With another dark wood shelf decorated against the back wall.

The second area is just to the right of the first one. You go through an automatic sliding glass doors & the room is totally glass. Behind this room is the kitchen that can all be seen from the inside of the entire restaurant. It's really hard to explain. (I want to post some pictures - so you can better understand it)

On top of this restaurant is the location for the new club house. It is complete with a balcony out in front & a bar in the back along with some restrooms & offices. The day I left it only had a few tables in there - but I suppose it should be available for use soon.

Exray,

Wow! Thanks for the comprehensive updates!

Where exactly is the new Italian? Happy to hear about the great views as most of the restaurants are not beachfront or oceanfront . I'm also having a hard time picturing where the new clubhouse is. Can't wait to see the pictures!

And camels??? Who knew there were camels??? Do the horses look like they are well cared for??

Kimlo

The new Italian is right before the new addition about 20 ft. behind the beach sidewalk. I was very impressed - you will love it and it's view. And the club house is on top of it.

Yes - can you believe camels. We saw them twice. The first time - they were playing, jumping, chasing each other, trying to bite each others tails. Image puppy playing - kinda like that. We thought was "no way is someone going to be able to ride on one of those things - yikes" But on the bike ride - they offered a free ride and I was shocked how calm they were.

We saw the horses the last time we were at EDR about 1.5 years ago. They seem to be in better shape this trip (although they weren't really in bad the first time either - but they had just gotten them) We had heard that horses are very hard to come by in this area and average $3000. The barns & area are really nice.

Oh by the way - out of the 2 peacocks - one is all white. I have never seen a completely white one.

And there are no more peacocks roaming on EDR property. Of course, we all know - there was problems with them - to say the least - lol
