El Dorado Royale - EDR Casita?

Hi All!

We are planning our honeymoon for June 07 and are looking to book at EDR. After reading the reviews I am torn on either the Casita or Ocean Front room. Many are saying the Casitas are too far from everything but others have written that the only way to get good reservations for dinner is by staying at the casita section.

Any opinion on which one to go with or other tips are appreciated! Thanks!

Hi

Honeymoons are meant to be special are they not.

For the people that say that the Casitas are too far away from everything - perhaps either they cannot see those little things called feet on the ends of their legs or they do not like using them.

We stayed in Casita 2819, which if you look at the map of the resort on their website, is about as far away from reception as you can get. To stroll from there to reception takes 15 minutes maximum. To walk to the Health Bar or Jo Jo's takes 10 minutes maximum

If they mean too far away from the action - the main pool, are you main pool people? Or, if you would like a smaller pool each of the Casita areas have one and a bar.

Dinner reservation were not a problem to us as we booked three before arrived and just kept topping them up. From reading the forum pages many others who were in the main part of the resort seemed not to have a problem either if they booked some in advance.

I would agree that you may have a problem if you do not book any in advance and if you are only there for three nights as a lot of people from your side of the pond do - I presume, or hope, that this being a honeymoom that you will be staying for more than three nights.

If you do chose a Casita and you want a clear ocean view you will need to opt for the upper floor ones and not the swim ups in areas 28 & 29 as all the lower floor suites do not have a clear ocean view.

If you want any more information please post all the questions and I will endeavour to answer them for you.

Flipflop man, do you have the website to book restaurant reservations and one for requesting room type? We are booked for a swim up casita but we would like a single as opposed to a 2 storey. Do you know or recommend a specific single casita number that would have maximum ocean view?

Alberta Couple

Swim Up as you will see from the Map on the website are in areas 28 & 29.

The single ones are at each end towards the ocean - 2825 is a really nice one and has a bed on the deck. However, it does not have a particularly great sea view as the casitas sit slightly lower than the path which runs along the ocean front.

With the single storey casitas you will also get a certain amount of foot traffic with them being next to the path so it may be better to select one which is slightly further in.

Best person to contact about room locations and meals is Paula the casita manager:

Thank you for the insight! We have decided on the casita section, upper floor. We certainly don't mind walking :o) and since it is our honeymoon, the casitas seem like the only way to go.

Thanks again!

Both

If you e_mail the resort they will send you a beautiful brochure of the resort and you will be able to sit over Christmas, look at it and dream of the days to come.

Website pictures are OK but this is just something special to look at now and again

You might want to request not to be in the 2700 building closest to the fondue restaurant. It's the hub of activity, concierges, etc. and can be a bit noisy, but that section also had imho the best swim-up bar and bartenders.

If you have a heart condition, you should specifically request not to be in room 1202 (iirc). The peacock hens park on your front porch and scream bloody murder at about 4a.m. every day. It's freakishly loud and will force you bolt upright in bed. By the end of the week we got used to it. It was actually kind of funny that EDR apparently had somebody posted nearby to deal with them every night. They'd only get one shriek out before somebody came up the stairs to swat them with a broom, lol.
