Help me identify marine animal we saw

We were driving from Big Sur to Monterey and pulled over to coast side of road. There were animals on the beach and I can't remember what they were. They weren't sea loins (I don't think) because they were bigger. They were on sand, occasionally flipping sand on their bodies. What were we seeing? Also, does anyone know the location? I'm asking because I'm at home now, labeling my photos and would love to have the correct information. Thanks.

Can you post a photo on one of the online photo sharing sites and put a link here? That will help with identification of not only the animal but the location as well.

Elephant seals, was it near to San Simeon? There is a big colony there.

Male sea lions can be over 1,000 lbs so they can get quite large!

OP here! They were elephant seals!

Thanks for the help in identifying these big creatures!

Riffs Mom - You've helped me before on this site! I think it was in the San Diego forum and I think I was looking for midcentury furniture. I'll go back in and see if I can find where you helped me before. thanks.
