Off-the-beaten-path or unadvertised lodging

Traveling to Big Sur soon and am looking for small boutique hotels, inns, B&Bs or guest houses that may not make it to mainstream advertising sites.

Do you know of any or do you have a favorite, small hotel in the Big Sur area?

haven't been there myself, but this looks interesting.. tripadvisor.com/VacationRentalReview-g240329… There is not much inventory in the area so most options are well known.

Big Sur is a rural area with not so many lodging opportunities.

When my friends from NYC come out here every summer they often stay here for a few days before or after their stay in Cambria, nearby:

Glen Oaks Motel would be my choice, but you can find private options through vrbo.com:

I would suggest Lucia Lodge based on my personal experience: http://www.lucialodge.com/

It can't be found on hotels.com, and when I reserved I had my pick of rooms and nights. Qualifies, to me.

Now. Lucia Lodge is not just a hotel; it's a destination, and should be treated that way. I'd read my review and others on this site. Focus on the four-and-five-star reviews; in my opinion and again from my personal experience, those folks know what this place offers. If you won't accept anything more unconventional than the Hyatt - or if you plan on arriving after dark - this may not be your cup of tea. But approach it with the right mindset and it will be a memorable place.
