Post Ranch Inn is in an ideal location.... on a bluff overlooking the Pacific Ocean. Ventana is located on the east side of Highway 1, so the views are at a distance.

Post Ranch Inn hands down. We've stayed there several times and loved the experience - the setting, the architecture, and the service. It's also closer to the water. Ventana is nice, but it feels a little corporate and impersonal since it's part of the regional Joie de Vivre chain. At Post Ranch, the service is a little more personal, and many of the same people have worked there since before we started going in 2005.

Thanks so much for taking the time to weigh in on this. Very appreciated!

Any tips on Post Ranch rooms? I think that Tree House may be our only option, depending on timeframe.

The tree houses are our favorite rooms for the money. The rooms are named, not numbered: ask if Boronda or Harlan are available, because they have ocean views. If they're not available, don't worry - any of the other tree houses are great. The whole property is on a high ridge overlooking the Pacific that's covered in a redwood forest, so there's no "bad" location.

Sierra Mar, the restaurant at Post Ranch Inn is one of the best in the area. This is a beautiful hotel with many nice amenities. :)
