Public transport and walking in Gargano

After reading other threads and some web research, we are now thinking of the Gargano for our walking holiday in April. We don't want to rent a car, but I am having problems searching the local bus and train sites. Please can anyone suggest a good place to stay with a choice of walks - coastal and/or inland - accessible either from the door or by bus/train? We can then find out the bus times when we arrive.

Also, can we get decent maps of walking trails in the local villages?

Thanks for any advice and suggestions

I don't know if you've already visited this webpage:

viaggiareinpuglia.it/multimedia/218/it/Guida…

Unfortunately, while the main page of the Foggia province is available also in English

www.viaggiareinpuglia.it/prov/FG/en/Foggia

the above quoted page about the trekking is only in Italian.

However, the pdf you can download into the Italian webpage by clicking on the phrase

"Clicca qui o sull'immagine per procedere con il download (circa 4.4 MB)"

(ie "Click here or on the image to download (about 4.4 MB)")

reports (sheets 6 and following ) some useful maps of trails, anyway understandable .

Concerning public transport, the area is covered by "Ferrovie del Gargano" company, which operates, in addition to the railway Foggia-Peschici, many bus lines that connect the Gargano region.

Unfortunately the site

http://www.ferroviedelgargano.com/en/

doesn't bring up a list of lines to browse through, but only allows you to query about single trips. However, it's quite useful.

Please also note that the Gargano is also marginally affected by the railway Foggia-Manfredonia. For its timetable, go to www.trenitalia.com, then click on UK flag
