Travel to Passekudah

We are planning a trip to Passekudah and I am trying to figure out how to get there by train. Is it possible to take a train to Batticaloa and then find a bus? Also do we need to book the train ahead?

Thank you.

Varachennai is the closest station served by express trains; Kalkudah solely by local trains. Still close enough, a few km from the beach. If youj have time do visit Kalkudah station also as a small tourist attraction, as desolate a station as in a Western movie!

Thank you so much for the information. Do you have links to the train websites? Can you book ahead?

Is morning train Batti - Colombo an alternative when we have to reach a plane whick leaves around 20 00 hrs? Does this train normally arrives on schedule in Colombo or are there normally big delays?

Expect for a delay of max. 1 hour. And if it's much more you have to disembark halfway and grab a taxi, arrival 15:25 in Fort allows some slack. Anyhow even with normal timing it might be wise to disembark in Gampaha and grab a cab there, saves about 1 hour.
