look at wotif.com.au

the airport is close to the city as is the cruise port, so look for a room in the cbd.

the only difficulty u may have is checking in early in the morning. most have a check in time around 2pm. but am sure whom you choose will allow u to store your baggage while u go exploring.

hoho bus is a good way to get orientated. walk around the rocks/circular/quay/opera house. ferry trip over the manly and back. by then the jetlag would have kicked in and u will be happy to call it a day.

Thank you so much for your great advice - is there a specific hotel you would suggest for a one night stay?

What is the manly you suggest taking a ferry over to and back?

hi Travellers41,

A few more details would be helpful and appreciated.

a) What Cruise Ship ?

b ) What wharf are you departing from ?

c) If we know details above, we can advice accordingly regarding hotels.

d) Have you thought about booking the hotel room the night before, so you can just walk into it ??

EM.

We are catching the Royal Carribean ( haven't been told yet which port it is using.

We are wanting to book the day before departure and would like to be able to walk t the port although in most ports you have to drive in

hi travellers41,

as suggested by lien and ellemay, stay in the city. there's not much around the airport and you'll find that you can see quite alot during your time here in sydney if you do a bit of planning.

the hop-on-hop-off bus(hoho) mentioned by lien would be good to give you an overview of sydney. the ferry ride to manly(a suburb on the northern side of the city) is fantastic for the photo opportunities for the bridge and the opera house. lots of eateries at manly to sit and have a coffee/nice meal.

your ship would either leave from the overseas passenger terminal(which is in circular quay so you can walk to the embarkation point) or from wharf 8(which is not so easy to walk to-you might need to take a cab).

there are so many hotels of varying prices that it is hard to recommend one to you unless we know your budget. are you looking for 4-5 star like the four seasons or the shangrila or the observatory or are you looking for 3-4 star? have a look at the intercontinental, the radisson, sir stamford. do have a browse on the www.wotif.com site and see if any hotel appeals to you. come back with more questions.....

Hi Travellers

As you're cruising with RC, I think the ship may berth at Circular Quay - I know that have berthed there before when in Sydney.

To make certain, check with RC. If they say Wharf 8, then the wharf where you embark from is at Darling Harbour (or at least very close to it) whereas if it is the Overseas Passenger Terminal, that will be Circular Quay.

If you can't find out this information, don't worry too much as where ever you choose to stay in Sydney CBD, you'll be a short taxi ride away from the cruise terminal.

thanks we have been trying to get that info without much luck so far - but will be persistent.

We would like to stay in that general area and of course would like a 5 star hotel for a 3 star price - the prices of rooms are quite expensive I am finding out - since we only sleep in it for one night it isn't a main issue with us - hopefully we will find one that can accommodate us
