Scenic Tours Australia 27 escorted tours

Am thinking about booking this tour for the end of the year. Any comments by customers who have done this tour would be very much appreciated.

We did this tour Feb/march 2011. lots of things went wrong. SCENIC have NOT been helpful on our return. they promised us small Group numbers the group was 46 not the 25-30 they had promised. Think MOST people were unhappy but they do not care!

HOTEL in Uluru VERY BASIC!! we were a LONG way from the reception area and the hotel outdoor lighting is not all it should be.

Tour director was very poor, Hilton hotel in Cairns having V NOISY building work done, only solved by one of the group ringing Scenic MD tour director did not care!!

My advice find another company Scenic are not good.

OH and BE AWARE that Thala beach is built on VERY STEEP slopes which are not good if you are an older person or not 100% fit! ESP going back from beach!! OKAY there is a golf buggy which runs around picking people up BUT it only holds three passengers so can be long wait NOT GOOD if you you get caught in TROPICAL RAIN STORM !! IT rained the whole time we were there and the roads were extra 'challenging'.

HOTELS in Perth not too fantastic either.

Qantas seem to insist on group check ins which delayed us caused havoc and resulted in lost bags. Scenic really need to sort this tour out.

Uluru sounds of silence dinner disappointing mainly because of the flies that are EVERYWHERE make sure you have fly net if you go there, EATING outside is really not a good idea in Uluru!!

whoa, was there anything good you did like? Do not know this tour or most of the hotels mentioned. but I have stayed at the Pioneer in uluru, and as it is the most remote of the hotels I am thinking it is the same one they use. if so, yes it is the cheapest, but I loved it. the entertainment is on every night and many come over to listen , ( it is the same every night however, as performers are employed for six months at a time, hard to get entertainers there) but they have the great bBQ, and personally the only time we ventured out to the only other entertainment the atmosphere was way too formal for me ( I did like their pool though). Buses run all day and up to late at night, so it is no big deal and you can walk back in the day time over a hill or around the road, the hill has a great view of the whole place and is awesome worth doing even if you dont stay there.

as for the Hilton in Cairns, at least it is right in town not out in the sticks. maybe you could ask for a quieter room if they are building or maybe building is common at the moment repairing from the cyclone. I know Cairns was not as badly hit,but still lots of damage to balconies etc.

hope you find a good tour that goes where you want to go to, and is the right price. I do think companies should be open about the size of their tours, and So Scenic should answer emails adn requests sent to them.

ThE OP asked specifically about Scenic tours 27 day tour. I told her about it.

WE were supposed to be on a 4-5 star tour the group were mainly people over the age of 50 some 70+. The desert Sails is a better hotel some on the tour had stayed there on previous trips. As the trip cost most of us in excess of £6k each we had expected the accommodation in Uluru to be better. The staff at the Desert Gardens were surly and at least three of us had to ring reception after 5 pm to ask if they would make up the rooms which had been left all day.

Most on the tour were disappointed with the sounds of silence dinner and felt that ONE night in Uluru would have been sufficient - as we left early the next day we had only stayed the extra night to fit in the dinner.

WE did not get a chance to Visit Alice Springs which many of us would have liked to do.

RE Hilton in CAIRNS they were REFURBISHING it had NOTHING to do with cyclone damage. THERE WERE no rooms except possibly the suites on the 8 th floor which were quiet. the noise was from HAMMER drills it was so loud you had to shout to make yourself heard. I do not know if you know the hotel BUT the layout of the rooms around a central court means that sound carries. many of the group also complained of the rooms smelling, mine did not.

The main problem here regarding Scenic was the LACK of action by the tour director to resolve the situation there were at total of 25 rooms that were unsuitable for us. IT was only the ACTION of one of the group that resolved the situation and resulted in SCENIC moving us all to another hotel with 25 quiet rooms.

Thanks for your comments. Have you heard of any other tour company that does similar escorted tours that may be better than Scenic.

Try APT or AATKings:

http://www.aatkings.com.au/au/

Both big (like Scenic), both mainly for the older crowd, too.

You could google "backpacker tour Australia" for cheapie options.

IN UK ....Others on our tour had previously done tours with Titan, which do not include meals BUT apparently much better tour. Have not been with this Company, but it appears to be worth a look. Many said that we should give them a go

Think these are available from UK too.

MY advice if you do not like huge groups is to get company to say IN writing that group is going to between 25 and 30 (or whatever) DO not go on what the kid on 'phone tells you, it seems some companies will tell you anything. People on Group were puzzled as some inbound stop overs were offered to some and not others ( I was told Fiji was not an option but it was!)

That 27 day tour is only available via Scenic UK. Scenic are known as full coach tour operators so I don't know where booboo8 would have got the impression they would be small group tour. They do offer premium tours operated with smaller coaches for a maximum of 20 guests but you do have to pay extra for those tours and the standard of accommodation is much higher. Have a look at scenictours.com.au to see what they offer for people already in the country. Although they don't cover as many destinations in one trip as the UK tour, you would get a lot more in depth trip of a particular area. I like the 21 day Territory & Kimberley for a good outback experience.

If you want guaranteed small group tours try Outback Spirit

It really depends what you want to get out of your holiday shrek74. Do you just want a whistle stop trip of all the most visited tourist sites in Oz (spending more time in airports and planes than on the ground) or do you want a true Australian experience. If so, pick a couple of things you REALLY don't want to miss while you're here and then find or organise a trip based on that.

Good luck planning and let us know if we can be of any further help. It's great that you've decided to research your trip BEFORE you book it rather than be disappointed with it when you get home :)
