Price of a pint of beer????

We're currently saving for a trip to Oz for the British Lions tour in 2013.

There are may questions I'm gonna ask in the coming months before we book-'what hotels are best?', 'which location?','which attractions should we not miss?', 'internal flights questions?'.

Amongst many more I'm sure?

BUT!!! There's one question we need answered more than any other-THE most important thing-

In the pubs-HOW MUCH IS A PINT OF BEER????

I'm not sure they sell it in pints.

There's a schooner and a midi, however.

I tried a couple and liked Victoria Bitter (VB)

Depends on the quality, location etc but for pints between $6 and $10.

(VB) Visitor Beer is best avoided.

Beer at real pubs in sydney is served in schooners (about three quarters of a pint) Schooners at suburban pubs are about $5..so at the current exchange rate you are looking at about 4 quid a pint.

It will be more than this in the tourist areas of sydney ie quay and darling harbour. Sydney ain't cheap.

Cheapest places to drink are licensed clubs. If you are in a place that serves pints and has wooden floors you are in a tourist trap. The price of beer at rugby and cricket grounds is scandalous

In Brissy as a point of comparison, you're looking at around $8 a pint for the local stuff and $10 for the premium stuff. There might be some promotions on where you can get pints for as little as $5 though. That's just in the English/Irish pubs. German/Belgian pubs seem to charge an absolute premium, so you'll be looking at upwards of $12 a pint at those places, especially if you're drinking Hoegaarden or stuff like that.

I recall the last Lions tour as an invasion of a huge number of large red beer bellies, obscuring some tourists behind! :)

and it isn't just a british lions tour it is the british and irish lions tour as they have tried to sneak in a few players from south of the border in the past and got caught out in 2001 and forced to rename.

their supporters will need all the beer they can drink in order to drown their sorrows over yet another series loss.

Wow!!!

£5-6 a 'pint' then?

We'll have to save a fortune if we want to keep the standards we set in South Africa a couple of years ago!!

Thanks for all your replies everyone!
