Itinerary for March 2012

We are planning a trip to Australia in March 2012. Our itinerary would be:

Cairns 12-19 March

Uluru 19-22 March

Melbourne 22-31 March.

Are there any major flaws to this plan like World Cup Football or school holidays that will cause price hikes and congestion? We visited Sydney a few decades back and had a wonderful stay. We'll probably rent a car in Cairns and Melbourne and visit the places that are suggested on Trip Advisor. I'm pretty much just beginning the research process. Also does anyone have any experience with Priceline bids in Melbourne. We used it in Amsterdam a few years ago and had a really great hotel for a inexpensive price.

None of the States you will be visiting will have school holidays of public holidays for the duration of your stay.

You will also miss the Grand Prix in Melbourne and World Cup does not affect us here. AFL Football starts on the final weekend in March, but doesn't affect travellers overly much.
