A Total Fire Ban has been declared from 1am Newyears day.

A total fire ban has been declared in Victoria from 1am New Years day for the following districts.

Wimmera - includes towns of Horsham and the Northern Grampians - Halls Gap.

Mallee - Includes Mildura and Swan Hill.

Northern Districts - Includes Echuca and Bendigo.

Hot temperatures with strong windy conditions are predicted.

All travellers to the towns on the Murray River area, Northern Grampians and Bendigo area are advised to exercise due care. There are likely to be a large number of holiday makers in these areas.

Keep your radio tuned for up to date alerts by the authorities. There are likely to be smoke affected roads and road closures which can make driving hazardous. Don't rely on GPS and have a paper map as a back up whilst driving.

Butt out that Cigarette before disposing of it and don't toss it out of the car window.

A total fire ban means just that no open fires at all while the ban is in place. Be conscious of your surroundings and stay safe.

A new Victorian emergency web site is www.emergency.vic.gov.au

Safe travelling everyone.

Handy warning - but may have been better putting it on the Vic and Melb forums rather than the Aus one - in case visitors are only looking in the forum where they are travelling.

with extreme weather in South Australia (some places looking for 50C tomorrow) and fires and heat in Qld it is proably best if everyone is aware of such advice and warnings

For travellers in Victoria a handy app for your iphone or android in the Vic Gov Fire Ready ap.

cfa.vic.gov.au/plan-prepare/fireready-app/

Not sure what the other states have.

Safe travels everyone and I hope it won't be a bad season.

I found this for NSW but I'm afraid I don't have a clue about apps. www.rfs.nsw.gov.au/dsp_content.cfm?cat_id=683

Will try and post a thread on a needs basis mainly for our overseas and interstate visitors and to serve as a subtle reminder for everyone to exercise care and be vigilant during the fire season.

Safe travelling everyone.
