Thinking of a stopover in Hawaii in between Uk and Sydney

Has anyone done a stop over in Hawaii either going to Australia from the UK or on the return? It seems there are no direct flights but via Los Angeles.

Honolulu doesn't look great but there must be other lovely places to stay in for a few days? We plan to try Kuala Lumpur on the other leg. Any advice would be gratefully received. Thanks

Hawaii is way to the east of Australia. The UK is way to the west. If you stop over in Hawaii in the way back you have to travel home via America and that makes it a round the world trip, so look into the price of RTW tickets.

It will certainly lengthen your travel time considerably. The usual stop overs between Australia and the UK are either somewhere in Asia or somewhere in the Middle East.

If you are interested in a "tropical" destination, first of all consider the various islands and beaches in Australia itself - the tropical north of Australia is great to visit in our winter (roughly May-Sept). You mention Malaysia, but what about Thailand or Indonesia? Bali, Indonesia is popular among Australians for its warm beaches and hospitality (though there are areas to avoid), and Thailand is of course well-known for its beach resorts. Both of these are a lot more "on the way" to and from Australia compared to the eastern Pacific, where Hawaii is.

Hi,

Hawaii makes a fabulous stopover if you are flying from LAX. As mentioned the usual stopovers from the Uk are - Hong Kong / Singapore / Bangkok / Kuala Lumpur / Dubai for direct flights to Sydney.

If you specifically want to stop in Hawaii ... Hawaii Airlines fly from New York to Honolulu and then onto Brisbane, where you could transit to Sydney. It will cost much more than coming the other way via Asia. If you have never been to Hawaii before ask for a few reviews ... some think it's just an ugly city with palm trees and a beach. Malaysia and Thailand would give you beautiful tropical stopovers at incredibly low prices ... Singapore is also beautiful but not at all for bargain prices, in fact quite expensive.
