Gap Year Travel and Advice

I am travelling to Aus on my own in October, I start in Sydney on a gap year programme so i'm sorted for a couple of weeks. Generally, I'm after any advice about best places to travel after, any body who may be in Aus at that time and even small things like what to pack! Ideally, I'd like some time in Sydney, then either travel and return to Sydney for Christmas and New Year or just travel from January. I already have my working holiday visa and am currently working in a bar as well as my 9-5 job to gain more experience!

So, if anyone has absolutely any advice I'd be grateful :)

Hi,

After your initial couple of weeks, before you start any planning, I would organise your accommodation for NYE if you're intending to stay in Sydney. To give you an idea, YHA sold out within 48hrs and accommodation are all starting to increase in rates. It would be fruitless for you to plan everything in detail, only to find you can't afford or can't find suitable accommodation, and then having to re-plan everything all over.

Have a look at the Thorn Tree Gap Travel forum.

You'll find lots of people just like yourself with all sorts of information to share.

Travelerspoint is another site that specifically caters to young people on a gap year.
