South Coast NSW Must do's

We have 3 nights in Gerringong from the 17th-20th January, and are looking for the best way to spend our time (Havent been to this area for years!) Will definitely get to Jervis Bay and Hyams beach, Kiama Blowhole, and have heard that Pebble Beach (near Batemans?) is good for Kangaroo spotting on the beach. Is there any time of day in particular that is best?

We enjoy scenery, good beaches and food

Pebbly (Durras/Muuramarang) is all day but do aware that the roos there are a bit aggressive as they are expectting a free feed

If you have a car it;s worth the drive thru Callala and into Husky that way...and darn theres a great winery on the RHS heading towards Nowra just before the dairy/papaermill but name is ...somehwere else (LOL maybe too many of their wines)

In gerringong i like the Caf that is beside the surf shop RHS heading south...a bit organic I think

sometime the fishes on the headland is good but the fish and chips at Werri are usually to die for

For me a circular drive up into the highlands would be high on the list. All three of the routes up to the highlands from the coast are lovely drives, so up via Kangaroo Valley and down via Jamberoo Mtn road or Macquarie pass (or vice versa) would be a great thing to do. Then you can also visit the waterfalls around Robertson and you travel straight past Fitzroy Falls.

Then of course there are the numerous lookouts over the coast. There is Cambewarra Mountain of course. One of my favourites is the Barren Grounds reserve. Great flora and a lovely lookout.. or you can also visit the tree top walk which is along the same route.

I guess most people would rate a visit to Berry up there too.

There are several wineries in the Shoalhaven region. It could be Silos Estate that GurusWife mentions? See the attached link.

I like Berry but it is super crowded on weekends with Sydney day trippers. But it is still a great little town with cafes, restaurants, antiques, giftwares and several pubs to choose from.

Cambewarra Mountain has a great view via the lookout over the Shoalhaven and from memory there is a cafe up there as well.

Nah it's not Silos.

It's on the road to Shoalhaven Heads. Just before Bomaderry.

Edited to add..thanks for the Link...

If you heading down Pebbly way and are a bit adventurous, Pigeon House Mountain just outside Ulladulla has spectacular scenery, even better but a longer walk is the castle and shrouded gods mountain in the same vicinity.

The Blue Swimmer at Seahaven, in Gerroa, is highly recommended for breakfast, lunch or dinner. Ranges from casual brekkie food to great lunch/dinner offerings.

Hi,

G/W - are you thinking of Coolangatta Estate.

http://www.coolangattaestate.com.au/

Another vote for driving up to the Southern Highland via Kangaroo Valley.

http://www.southern-highlands.com.au/drives

The drive to Currarong which is a quiet coastal village located 33 km south-east of Nowra at the northern end of the rugged Beecroft Peninsula is very interesting too especially if you visit Honeymoon Bay along the way.

At Currarong there is i beach called Abrahams Bosom which is very sheltered & walks start from this sheltered cove ranging from the 500-meter stroll to the wreck of the SS Merimbula to the half-day Coomb's walk..makes a fab day outing.

Kiama

If you like thai food Thai@Kiama is great next to the leagues club in Collins Street or Vietnamese try Hanoi on manning , Manning Street .

I did a walk around Kiama the other day , a few photos and directions . It covers most of the attractions Kiama has to offer.
