Transportation from Gold Coast to Sydney

I understand that its best to take flight from Gold Coast to Sydney. Anyway, due to budget constraint, me and hubby (plus 6 year old daugther) would like to take train or bus? Is such transportation service available from Gold Coast (Surfers Paradise-we will be staying at Holiday Inn for a week)) to Sydney? Which is much convenience; train or bus? And how long is the journey? Need advise from all of you here..Thanks so much!!!!

Trains & busses are available, but would take something like 12 hours!! {Just guessing - but its almost 1000k's}

3 words for you. DON'T DO IT!!!

It costs about $79 per person to fly the 1 hour journey from Sydney to the Gold Coast. I would expect a train/bus to cost similar to this.

You must book in advance as much as possible to get the cheaper flights.

Look up the:

jetstar, virgin or qantas websites for deals.

The Holiday Inn has just undergone a major refurb and looks good. You should enjoy.

Dear Firebuckket/All:

Sorry I'm very new in this forum. I've surveyed the website and take note on the pricing. Anyway if possible, I just would like to know which 1 is the best in term of service (no flight delay, etc); Jetstar, Qantas or Virgin. Appreciate your advise! Thanks..

I have flown with both Qantas and Virgin. There isn't a lot between them except for the in-flight services, which isn't a big deal on a 1 hr flight. Qantas you'll get a light meal and a drink for free. On Virgin you have to pay, but prices are probably better than you'll get for same at the airport. Personally, I have no complaints with either airline - I take the one that offers the time and price that works best for me.

Jetstar is a budget arm of Qantas which was launched to compete with Virgin, so I would expect similar arrangements to Virgin (someone who has flown with them could probably confirm.).

I agree with previous posters - air is faster and often cheaper. If not, difference isn't much and on a holiday any small trade off on cost is well worth the extra time saved

By the way - no direct rail from Gold Coast to Sydney - options are going back to Brisbane or taking a bus down to Casino in Northern NSW to link up. The trip from Brisbane is about 14.5 hrs - I wouldn't think it was a serious option.

If you decide to fly with Jetstar be very careful.. For Domestic flights, check-in opens 2 hours before scheduled departure and closes 30 minutes before scheduled departure. They will NOT allow you on the plane if you are late...(NOT even if you are 2mins late.)

Its a very short flight from Coolangatta to Sydney (1 hr)...so get the best price you can from any of the domestic airlines.

www.qantas.com.au www.virginblue.com.au www.jetstar.com.au

The traffic can get congested along the the main route from Surfers to Coolangatta Airport, so allow plenty of time for your journey home.

If staying at Coolangatta, then its only a 5 min taxi ride to the airport.

Catching a plane is your best option and the cost is much cheaper than a bus. If you really want to catch a bus check out www.greyhound.com.au but it will take you at least 10-12hrs.

Hi, could be a bit outdated; just want to clarify; flight duration from Gold Coast to Sydney is more than an hour; around 2hours 25mins; unless unaware to my knowledge, two of these cities have different time zones.

I'm not sure why you would drag a 6 month old post up to give the wrong answer, but it is about 1.5 hours for a flight from Sydney to Gold Coast. This includes taxiing around the runway and collecting your baggage!

It's the daylight saving time difference....you know...

queensland is one hour and ten years behind sydney.
