Palm Beach or Cronulla/Bundeena

In addition to Bondi and Manly, I am thinking fo taking a friend to one of the further out of town beaches.

Having lived in Sydney a few years back i know the distances and transport options etc, but am wondering which others might think would be the better, taking into consideration practicalities like the public transport, and what can be seen or done at the destination or any stops along the way. Other considerations like cost of fares and availability of food, either nice cafe or good take away to eat on the beach are helpful. One tends to associate (maybe wrongly) Nthn beaches with upmarket pricing.

Going via Manly at least one direction to Palm Beach is a bonus, but Manly on its own can happen regardless of which we choose.

Food pricing at Cronulla is pretty similar to the Northern beaches in Cafe's etc.

Bundeena is a good alternative. If you are into walking you could do the espanade from North Cronulla around to bass and Flinders then down to catch the ferry across.

My other fave is Nun's Pool at Cronulla (but it might need a booking at this time of year as it gets pretty crowded).

Either direction will be pretty similar with the exception of "training all the way to Cronulla.

A bit further down Wollongong would be another option, there is a free HOHO bus from the station...

The bus ride to Palm Beach from the city is quite long(by car about 1 hour) but it is a great place to visit. There is both a surf beach and enclosed bay offering water and boating activities, a great walk up to Palm Beach Lighthouse with wonderful views or a ferry to Patonga or The Basin offering walking tracks. Some good cafes, fish and chips, expensive restuarants like Jonahs at Whale Beach or the popular Newport Arms Hotel for good food and drinks.
