worlds best restaurants named - 2 in Sydney

Quay in Sydney has come in at number 27 in the Pellegrino Annual Worlds best restuarant list - up 19 places !

Testsuyas dropped 21 places to 38, and thats it for Australia.

for those foodies out there Elbulli is no longer No 1 in the world ( now No 2) with the top spot going to Noma in Copanhagen.

I would agree that 'Quay' is better than Tetsuya's. We went to Tetsuya's last year & the service & food had definitely slipped. Hubby still enjoyed it, but I wouldn't go back, there are other places (like Quay) where the food is just as good & the service is much better.

Also worth noting that Marque on Crown St came in at no. 67, so that's 3 in the top 100 for Sydney.

And how exactly can anyone come up with a credible list of the 100 "best" restaurants out of the hundreds of thousands of restaurants around the world? Is there really not one restaurant in the whole of mainland China (excluding Hong Kong) that would qualify?

What a load of codswallop!

Whilst I love Quay, given the choice between it & Tets, I would choose Tets every time...

Quay has the view advantage, not sure if that comes into judging these type of awards or not.

I dont disagree with you Nick but apparently that list has a lot of weight.

As a result of it bookings at elBulli have to be made 6 months in advance and even so when we went to Barcelona and tried to book in the required time frame, we still couldnt get in :-(

Still, many experts say the best of the best are in Asia. Doesnt Tokyo currently have the most Michelin starred places ??

I just wish I had the time, money and metobolisim to get a job on the judging panel !

;-)

40ish,

much of that is a big push by the Japanese to get ratings in order to attract tourism dollars as well a desire by local Japanese to seek out places that have a creditability

Sorry anyone who is a Tets fan but it really suits those who are fish oriented, which is why Guru loved the place and I went OK nice but not OTT I like any thing that comes out of the sea that isn't a fish.

OTOH, Quay and a few others seem to be able to meet the needs of the seafoodophiles by having a good lot of alternatives
