Do the cruise ships block views?

Hi,

We're staying at the Park Hyatt and I keep seeing photos of massive cruise ships moored near there. Would they block the views towards the Opera House from the hotel or the bars at the Rocks?

No, a ship will not block your view.

Your hotel is oriented so you look out towards the city, the Harbour and the Opera House.

Check the following for dates and docking times. A ship might block your view if you dine at the Overseas Passenger Terminal restaurants.

The Rocks is low-rise and so is the Park Hyatt so views of The Rocks - I don't think that is really an issue. The Rocks is to be discovered at ground level. I am not really sure you will even have a view of the Rocks, the hotel more or less a part of the Rocks itself - and as stated before the views are of the harbour.

The following map shows you where the Park Hyatt is compared to the Overseas Pasenger Termnal - so no you will not have a cruise ship blocking your view at all.

Have a good stay.

The only one which has any impact that is due in port soon is rhapsody of the seas but it doesn't block the view.

The Queens when in dock do block quite a bit of the view...

It does block any of the restaurants and bars in the Passenger terminal eg

Google is your friend. Get on Google Maps or Google Earth; the sightlines from Park Hyatt are easy to check.

Even if a cruise ship did block your view for the time it is in port, how much time during that day would you spend admiring that blocked view. What would more than make up for it would be the view of the lit up ship when it leaves at nighttime. The view would be back the day after.

As other's mentioned a ship in port at the overseas passenger terminal doesn't block views from the Park Hyatt....some of the bars do have blocked views if a ship is in town. - so check before booking a table.
